One of the key questions when designing edge architectures is whether to use a centralized or decentralized model. In most cases, the answer will depend on the edge use case. For example, the expected traffic patterns will determine whether it is beneficial to centralize all the traffic handling functions within a single site. In such a centralized environment, the challenge becomes how to balance network capacity with cloud capability. For example, it could be necessary to re-architect components to ensure faster response times, or to re-configure the hardware to provide increased network capacity.
A decentralized model is usually more flexible and allows for closer integration with other vendors. However, this requires software or hardware to be brought into the edges sites and manually managed.
Another element that can be a key part of edge architectures are IoT gateways (IoT-GWs). Many IoT devices are connected to the edge and are running software defined networks (SDNs), but there could also be traditional IoT gateways. An IoT-GW typically has limited compute and storage capabilities; it works as an interface between the edge and the cloud. This interface can be mobile or stationary depending on the edge use case.
The decision to use a centralized model requires special consideration. High traffic volumes can present a challenge. If the edge architecture is centralized, then the decision to increase capacity must be made within the central site. This may require the purchase of additional hardware or software to support the added capacity. If the traffic is not evenly distributed, then this could result in particular edge nodes having higher traffic volumes than others, potentially impacting the performance of the other nodes in the infrastructure.
Another example is what’s known as the ‘fat pipe’ approach. This is when a vendor supplies a standard product that can be deployed edge sites, and allow them to use that product to connect to the core network. This approach is often used in Telco environments where there is a core infrastructure and customers use standard hardware with the vendor’s software stack to run the network. In this approach, the customer does not need to purchase a product from the vendor.
Finally, some edge architectures allow for small cells in a cellular access network. These small cells can be directly connected to the core network or more commonly to edge access points, which then connect to the core network. These small cells can be present in industrial sites, at airports, or inside buildings.
Bahubali is one of the highest grossing films in Indian cinema and winner of two National Awards for Best Actor and Best Director. The film features Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Nana Patekar, Tamannaah and Ramya Krishnan. The film was released on April 22, 2015 by producer S. S. Rajamouli. The film is directed by S.S. Rajamouli and is a story of Dharma Raja (Prabhas), a royal crown prince of the kingdom of Mahishmati. Dharma Raja is sent on a mission to find his missing father, Nala. On his journey, he meets a beautiful woman and a group of Vishnu warriors who are on a mission to protect the kingdom of Mahishmati. 827ec27edc
