I believe that this adapter is either getting outdated or there has been a change in the driver. I was actually looking for a way to convert an older program that needs a serial port connection to work on a new computer and haven't been able to find any other adapter that works with the device. I will try the driver install instructions you mentioned above. If that doesn't work I will try and make my own.

If you need to, disable the adapter. Connect the serial device to a different port, and turn it back on. If there is no problem with the serial port on the adapter, you can then continue using the serial port.
