The show itself follows the adventures of Xena, a warrior set in the ancient Greece. Her companion and partner is Gabrielle, a peasant girl with a magical healing power. The plot focuses mainly on their fights against the corrupt Roman Empire. It was also notable for a feminist message; Xena emphasized the equality of women and men, the primary source of issue. Xena also shows an exceptional tolerance towards women and is friends with many of them. It was a very popular show on TV, airing for 5 seasons and going on to spawn a total of 7 seasons, for a total of 77 episodes, from 1992 to 2001. It was then picked up by the Fox television network and, after finishing its 7th season, aired until 2005. Along with her TV show, Xena had a feature length movie, Xena: Warrior Princess, which was a box office success, and is the 2nd highest-grossing female-led fantasy film in the US.
In the second season, the scope of the show broadened: the show begins with Xena as the most hated and feared general in all of Greece, and by the end of the season, has won over the people of Greece and become a hero. This season also marked the introduction of many female characters who would go on to appear throughout the rest of seasons, including Hylea, Xena' former rival and love interest. Hylea will continue to play a major role throughout the remainder of the show. Season two also marked the introduction of a few new characters, including Ares, Xena's long-lost brother. d2c66b5586
